The Downliner: Traffic Exchange Redefined?

What Is The Downliner?

The Downliner works like a traffic exchange: you can earn or buy points that allow you to show your own sites, banners or text ads. Each time you show your own coop page, you earn 1 point. You can promote your page wherever you want, except in auto surf exchanges, because it is considered as very low traffic quality (sites are not really viewed).

What is different with The Downliner is that you receive traffic not from The Downliner itself, but from more than 4,000 different sites, including traffic exchanges, paid to click sites, safelists, classified ads or social media sites.

The Downliner Dashboard

Very Affordable Advertising

The paid account is pretty cheap: for a low $9.99 per month, you receive 6,800 shop points, equivalent to 5,400 views of your sites. The Ultimate upgrade at EasyHits4U costs $19.95 per month and only gives you 1000 credits! 5000 credits at Easy Hits4U cost $27.95!

These points can be converted to “Campaigns” (you show your sites like in any traffic exchange), banner views, text ads views or social posts.

Unique Views

To ensure the quality of the traffic, The Downliner has developed a system to guarantee that the views are unique: each time someone views a site, a cookie is placed on the viewer’s browser. The cookie is valid for 5 minutes. If the same visitor views the site before those 5 minutes, the view is classed as a repeat visit, and no views are deducted from the advertiser’s account. In the stats, these views appear like “Free Views”.
Statistics are very detailed: you can see the IP Adress of the viewer, the country or origin and the date/time of visit.

Social Posts

The Downliner lets you post your ads on several social media sites like Facebook or Twitter. Everything is taken care of inside the system, so you don’t have to use your own social accounts. The ads are posted in Twitter and Facebook groups and “accounts with high follow counts” (it’s not precised what exactly are those sites). The ads are apparently posted in a way that seems natural to search engines, and not in a spammy way.

Affiliate Program

Free members earn 10% commissions on referrals upgrades and traffic purchases. Upgraded members earn 30%. What is interesting is that The Downliner deletes unverified accounts after 3 days, to ensure that people who sign up are really active. Upgraded members receive random referrals: you can build a downline without even promoting the system!

What Kind Of Traffic Can You Expect?

As said before, your site will be placed on several traffic-generating sites. By looking at the detailed statistics provided, we can see exactly what are the sites the traffic comes from:

  • Traffic Exchanges: TE Income Train, Little Pond TE, Squirly Traffic, TrafficG, Road Runner Hits, Soaring4Traffic, ThumbVu, Astrology Surf, Traffic-Splash…
  • Paid To Click Sites: PTC Buddy…
  • Traffic Coop Sites: TE-JV, Viral TE Co-op…
  • Banner Exchanges: Banners Gone Wild…
  • Classified Ads: Post My Ads Daily…
  • WorldProfit’s members sites…
  • Rotators: Nozey Rotator, EasySqueezyRotator…
  • Ad Servers: OjoooWad…

My Results With The Downliner

To test drive the system, I’ve run several campaigns:

First Campaign: 5,000 Credits

For that campaign I promoted this page: Wealthy Affiliate

The campaign lasted about 3 days. The Downliner delivered something like 1800 visits a day.

You can see the results below:

The Downliner - Wealthy Affiliate First Campaign
The Downliner – Wealthy Affiliate First Campaign

5596 visits total (590 non-unique visits, which are not deducted from my credits, but it adds up a little extra).

I used a third-party tracker to track the clicks, so here is what the tracker said:

The Downliner - Wealthy Affiliate First Campaign Tracked By The Real Tracker
The Downliner – Wealthy Affiliate First Campaign Tracked By The Real Tracker

As you can see, almost all clicks are unique and a lot of them are tracked as “real”, which means the visits last more than 5 seconds. But there are very few responses (people who perform an action on the page, such as clicking a link). It is confirmed by the fact that this campaign only brought me 1 signup.

Second Campaign: 10,000 Credits

For that campaign I used this page: Wealthy Affiliate Customized Signup Page

The campaign lasted for 3 days. The link received 10010 hits (825 free views). But this time, I had 0 referrals.

My Conclusion

Finally, the most interesting thing with The Downliner is its very cheap price. Unfortunately, the results are a little deceiving, but I think that 2 campaigns are not enough to really test the system, so I will continue setting up campaigns and publishing the results here.

Social Posts are a very interesting feature, because it brings natural traffic for a pretty cheap price. I will also test this feature and publish the results.

As I said in my article, visitors come mostly from traffic exchanges sites, safelists mailers or advertising sites. Your link is placed on thoses sites, which bring the traffic. I think it’s a good and cheap way to generate some traffic. You can give it a try and let me know what you think, good luck!

Considering you were promoting a program that costs $47 a month ($19 to start) and using the stock homepage and splash your results are typical however can i suggest you create an Autoresponder series and link it to a uniquely designed Capture page to increase your conversions.

Not every viewer is ready to pay what WA wants without some encouraging words from their sponsor. Build a relationship with your customers before pushing them into a recurring $50 a month membership.

Additionally you are aware that the leadsleap tracker does not count views of less than 5 seconds as an actual view? That’s the reason your stats from leadsleap differ to that of The Downliners

Yes that’s what I was thinking too. Traffic from The Downliner is typical of TE’s traffic, with a lot of very short visits. But I will continue testing the system and publish further results along the way. Thanks for your comment!

I had better response with EasyHits 4U (About 1 signup for 1000 views). But I need to further test the system before I can come with any conclusion. Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi David,
Thank for your excellent review on Downliner. It indeed seems like an excellent source to drive traffic to your website. Your results were interesting. The site visit numbers were great but interaction low. I would suspect doing a few more campaigns would give you a better idea on its effectiveness. I think I will open an account and try it out to see how it goes for me. Thanks again for your review.

The low conversion rate was due to the fact that I promoted directly the program I wanted people to sign in. Now I drive the traffic to a capture page, in order to make people sign up to a subscribers list. And it works! So you need to be a little creative when promoting, for example by using your own capture page.

You received great results from Downliner David. Congratulations! I would like to understand more about this service. I have not heard of it before visiting your website today. With this amount of referrals you would boost your traffic and rankings on other search engines too. Do you find you are getting good leads from the Downliner referral network too?

I use The Downliner mostly to promote my list, and I manage to put 3 to 5 leads per week on my list with the traffic sent by The Downliner. So I can say that it’s a system that works!
